DESCRIPTION
This website was created by two secondary school teachers in London, whose mission was to make creating resources easy for teachers.
Wordwall is a website that has 33 different templates for you to create online games for your class. These templates range from match up, unjumbling, wordsearch, matching pairs, maze chase, gameshow quiz, open the box, true or false etc. Prior to 2016 teachers needed to download software to run Wordwall. This is no longer the case and teachers all over the world can now share resources on the website.
This website can be used as a literacy strategy in a class. The key feature of Wordwall that makes it so user friendly for teachers is that you only have to write the words once, for example; if you create a wordsearch those keywords can be reused to create a gameshow quiz or open the box etc..
The role of the teacher in wordwall can be both creator and facilitator. You can make your own game on Wordwall or you can use one of the many games created by other teachers. The quiz can be used either in class or for homework. The link to the quiz can be shared with the students. You can use an interactive whiteboard in class or the students can use their own device.
I found Wordwall extremely easy to use. It was also very straight forward sharing the link to the students google classroom, which they were then able to access with no difficulties.
EXPERT'S COMMENT
Wordwall is a great literacy tool for use in the classroom. It is also extremely user friendly. The amount of resources that can be created in one place is also a big advantage.
From using Wordwall so far I have not come across any weaknesses, it links very easily to my google classroom account. When I set the assignment the students are directed to that one activity without any distractions. The students' results are then recorded and made available to the teacher.
Most of the activities on Wordwall are available as interactives and printables. There is also a large amount of guidance on the Wordwall website to help you use the different templates.
Wordwall can be used for all subjects and is not just for science subjects. I would recommend using Wordwall to other teachers.
